How to choose your own Coach ?
The role of the coach is to help you clarify your problem or your project, and then seek solutions that work for you.
Thanks to the "mirror" that he offers, through its professional skills (tools, posture, adjustment, adaptation…), the Coach allows you to go more efficiently, more easily and more quickly where you want to go.
Sometimes he will bring you an immediate emergency aid, but more often he will help you become more aware of your own brakes, your unused ressources and thus to be more aware of the consequences of your decisions.
Obviously, the Coach is not there to take them for you.
Can Everyone be a Coach?
Yes, and almost everyone has done some coaching at one time or another.
Anyone is able to help others do a better job with training, advice, assistance at the corner of a coffee table, or in many other life's circumstances.
In the same way, every person can help another succeed BUT this does not mean that he is a coach, even if he is acting in the spirit of Coaching.
The spirit of coaching is believing that it is often far easier and much quicker for a person to go where s/he wants to, if s/he gets help. Anyone can do some coaching according to this state of mind.
A friend, a family member?
Yes, because the greater he knows you, the better he will understand your issues and more easily the alliance and the relationship of trust can be established.
No, because due to its proximity, it will become difficult to maintain neutrality and the necessary emotional distance. There may be a high risk of confusion between providing help and rescueing. Are you looking to be rescued or to grow and learn from your experiences in an autonomous way.
At any time, each of us can adopt an internalized coaching attitude toward a family member or friend, by taking the time to listen to him, to understand him, to help him regain his self-confidence ... , but remain careful not to invest yourself too much.
The specificity of a professional Coach is not to act only in the spirit of Coaching (since everyone can do), but to do so according to an explicit contract (which will guarantee your physical and moral integrity as well as your autonomy…) and with a high professionalism (posture adjustment, large choice of tools and methods according to your personality, your values and your own goals…).
Not only is the Coach able to push the right button at the right time, but he will also do it so that you feel like you are the owner of your decision and actions which will make them last for a life time.
Does the Coach need to be an expert in my issue(s)?
Coaching unlike advice, does not, most of the time, require a thorough knowledge of the profession of the other person, nor does it require the technical knowledge of the tools which the issue or situation is related to. It is even better to know just a little or even nothing about that specific job.
This will make it much easier to listen to the person without having the desire to share his experience and views which would parasitize the relationship and the emergence of your resources.
Should I be coached by one with a lot of experiences ?
Not knowing what Coach to chose to help you out with your problem you might prefer to rely on the reputation and experience of a Coach !
You are right ... And yet nothing, and no one can assure you that you will succeed in reaching your goal, to solve your problem.
This is not the experience of Coach by itself that will facilitate the change you want, but the quality of your relationship and your "feeling" about :
* His open-mind.
* Your sense of being listened to and understood.
* His ability to understand your issues.
* His respect and non-judgmental state of mind in regards of your experience.
* Your sense of confidence.
The ultimate question that you and your Coach should ask yourselves is :
"Do I feel good with him?"
A few questions to consider before starting out the Coaching :
* What are the Codes of Conduct and Ethics used by the Coach?
* What is the contract that validates our cooperation, your rights and duties towards one another?
* Does the Coach go to a place for supervision?
* What elements validate his authority as Coach (recognised training certification to the job of professional Coach, diploma, status for the Coaching sports, or just his experience and desire)?
* What kind of tools and theories is the Coach using in his relationship ?
My Background
How did I become a professional Coach ?
Over my experiences in the field of recreational and professional sport, I've had a passion for increasing the potential and talents of each person under my responsibility.
I, then, became a conditioning and strength specialist for athletes and anybody looking for physical fitness. Today, after having shared and developed my skills with top athletes, why couldn't you benefit of everything ?
Faced with the effectiveness of physical development established with the men and women athletes, I naturally looked for another key element of athletic success: the mind.
In order to be more effective, both in my personal and professional life, the mental preparation has become one of the many tools in my Coaching procedures.
Certified within the European Centre for Professional Coaching, Link Up Coaching, authorized by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), I have strengthened my knowledge, my skills and especially my behavior as a professional coach to make change easier, quicker and much more enjoyable.
Today, in addition to help the sports world with these methods and tools, I wish to offer you a personalized Coaching to help you feel good in your head and in your body, as well as to act effectively in achieving your own goals.
